A Special Covid-19 Notice:
A lot of us are understandably nervous about committing to anything in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and photography workshops are certainly subject to that nervousness. Not to worry. You can be assured this workshop will be conducted with all the recommended Covid-19 protocols AND,in the event we need to cancel you will receive a 100% refund of any payments.
M ost of us cannot resist taking pictures of beautiful scenes that include water . . . rivers, streams, lakes, and waterfalls. And, there’s nowhere better to do that than in the Adirondack Mountains of New York’s Adirondack State Park. What’s more, who doesn’t like spending an August day on the shores of mountain lakes or ponds?During this session, we’ll relax and emphasize the quiet waters in search of peaceful images. We can count on capturing everything from colorful reflections to moody, misty sunrises or sunset and meaningful abstracts. We’ll enjoy composing subjects beneath the water’s surface, discovering how to handle high contrast in water scenes, and why cloudy days are great for streams, lakes, and ponds.
Be Prepared: Shortly before our trip, I will share some tips on how to protect yourself and your photography gear on, in or near water. Transportation to our venues each day will be via carpool. Some venues may take an hour or so to arrive at, but I promise, all are worth the effort.
Who should attend? Any photographer interested in exploring the artfulness of waterscapes will take home meaningful images. We’ll unpack how your polarizer can be used to enhance your images of water as well as the artful use of neutral density filters and High Dynamic Range (HDR) techniques. There will be plenty of time for one-on-one instruction as well as formal classroom exploration of various elements and techniques for photographing water. There will be plenty of time to shoot and to enjoy the opportunity to expand your portfolio with peaceful as well as dramatic Adirondack images. You are sure to be impressed with the pristine yet nearby wilderness environs.
Instruction: All my workshops and retreats are geared and scheduled for maximum personal, one-on-one attention. With a small group, no more than eight participants will be accepted, you can be confident of the time and attention you need to work on new skills, practice new techniques, and enhance your creativity. In addition, each day’s schedule will include time for group instruction on such subjects as Design & Composition, Seeing Your Image before you click the shutter release button, Post Capture Processing, the Art of Landscape Photography, Favorite Tricks for Shooting Water and spontaneous interests of our group.
Image review: Many participants in my workshops and tours consider our daily image review sessions to be a highlight of our time together. It’s an opportunity to revel in our successes as well as to learn from the success of others in anticipation of our next shoot.
Lodging: The Sandy Point Motel (or its sister property the Blueberry Hill Motel down the street) will be our home away from home. David and Daniela are our attentive hosts. While we don’t know why anyone would want to, participants may seek other lodging options close to our base of operations. In this case that is Long Lake, NY which offers a variety of options from basic camping, RV campgrounds, and modest motels to upscale Adirondack B & Bs and old-line hotels. Sandy Point will serve as our home base and is holding a selection of rooms
for participants to choose from. Just mention you are with the Tom Dwyer Photo Group. David or Daniella will be happy to take care of your reservation at (518) 624-3871. I stand ready to help if you should need assistance or other recommendations for lodging. I hope you’ll join us!
NOTICE: The potential always exists for specifics of any tour/workshop to change. It is with this thought in mind that I will always confirm the details of your planned participation with you before charging your credit card. I always suggest that you not confirm schedule or travel arrangements until I have confirmed the details with you.
Participation will be limited to no more than eight (8) participants.
