Black & White vs Color

This is the B&W conversion. In conversion I set clarity at +19, slid my reds to -33 and my yellows to -23 to hold a little of more of the sky at the horizon.
I had a comment about the black and white conversions that I posted Saturday. So, I thought, what the heck. Let’s post the B&W and the color versions side by side and see what we think. I still like the B&W better, myself.
When converting from the color to the B&W I did make a few adjustments in Lightroom, which I’ll note in the captions. It should be interesting to see what folks think.
i like both the B&W and the color in the first pic. I think color is better in the second one. Really brings the sun into play with the strong side light. On the other hand, if you’re going for an older look, like you might see in a picture of a quarry put from the ’50’s, then B&W all the way. But my vote is color on the 2nd one.

Good thoughts, Rod.
Hi Tom. Following along. I’m finding I am more apt to like a B&W conversion the less complicated the image is. I find the second image difficult to figure out in B&W. Not hard and fast on this but to my eye need some clean lines and better defined contrast interfaces.
Thanks for posting. Jim
Points well taken Jim. I think both of these come off better when viewed larger than we can in the blog. But, I like your thoughts about clean lines and better defined contrast. These are two things that I agree will help most black and white images.
Just love b&w winter scenes.(all b&w for that matter). Any photograph in b&w will always make me stop and take notice. These are remarkable images ,Tom.
